Helpful tips for stressful situations

Stressful event

When: If possible, at least 15 minutes before the start of the stressful event.
Where: On at least 6 places positioned towards the centre of each room frequented by the cat about 20 cm from the floor. Examples include door frames and corners of furniture.

Frequency: Once per day.

Duration: For the duration of the stressful event.

Travel

When: Use 15 minutes before placing the cat in the travel carrier.
Where: Apply 2-3 sprays to the bottom of the carrier.
Frequency: Before each journey.
Duration: Repeat every 6 hours, if the journey is long and the cat remains anxious. Always remove the cat from the carrier before spraying.

New home

When: 24 hours before introducing the cat into the house.
Where: On at least 6 places positioned towards the centre of each room the cat(s) will occupy about 20 cm from the floor. Examples include door frames and corners of furniture.

Urine marking:

When: After locating and properly cleaning all traces of urine.
Where: On the vertical surface where urine was deposited, normally 15-20 cm from the ground.
Frequency: 1 to 2 sprays once per day.
Duration: For 1 to 4 weeks at each marked place.
It is unnecessary to spray onto traces of urine found on a horizontal surface as this is commonly seen with a separate behavioural problem called “inappropriate elimination.”

Scratching

When: From the first moment scratches are discovered.
Where: On the scratched area.
Frequency: Once per day.
Duration: For 1 to 4 weeks on each scratched area.

Where: On at least 6 places positioned towards the centre of each room frequented by the cats about 20 cm from the floor.  Examples include door frames and corners of furniture.
Frequency: Once per day.
Duration: For 1 to 2 months (average time for cats to become comfortable with each other).
Best for use in smaller rooms.
